Summer Stock Auditions
One of my littles was preparing for a recent audition and callbacks. Having no earthly idea how that all works, I went straight to the top. I looked to the pros on the SAG website. It was chock full of great tips and advice that were fit for the stage and kitchen alike! While I perused the information, I thought – we are doing the same thing this week – casting recipes for roles this summer. I plan to have the following memorized and performance ready!
WHEN THE LIVIN’ WAS EASY
Summer is almost here which means I am gearing up for lots of pool time, carpooling and potlucks. I need dishes that are portable, make ahead and easily prepared – and, as always - taste really good. Impressive doesn’t hurt either.
It’s a Ratatouille
meets Field of Dreams
kinda flick. All to the soundtrack from Cocktail.
NOW AUDITIONING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
POOLSIDE LEADING LADY
Think elegant but easy, sweet and crispy. This dish must ready in minutes, a one-dish dinner, easily portable, great leftovers for lunch by the pool or sitting in the bleachers.
CAST: MONDAY’S PICKLED SHRIMP SALAD
This is a character role requiring a journeyman dish that must be able to last 3-4 days in the fridge, be versatile enough to handle any last minute changes and ready for the road. Classical training with keen improv skills a must.
CAST: TUESDAY’S WHEAT BERRY SALAD
Time to break out of the ensemble! This dish is fit for a diva. It has to carry the whole show when there is no meat to anchor the meal.
CAST: WEDNESDAY’S PORTOBELLO SAMMIE
This dish must be a triple treat – versatile, ready in a moment’s notice and a flavor powerhouse. Must be able to work with any leftover roasted or grilled meats – it will steal all the accolades this week.
CAST: THURSDAY’S CHICKEN ADOBO
Congratulations to our cast and…break a leg!
