Ugggh. Sound familiar?
Early on, I realized that feeding my family was a lot harder than it looked on TV. How could a half hour show produce that beautiful, simple meal and it took me all damn day? And, what are all those words they are using?? And, how do they get all the dishes done at the same time? Game on.
I turned to the pros: our Mom’s. Between the two of them I had the comfort thing covered. Throw in Cooking Light Magazine, I was on my way!
Now, I needed a strategy. I decided that I could handle only 4 nights a week – something always comes up – like I don’t feel like cooking (!). Monday would always be simple as that’s the day I shop. Tuesday’s the doubler for use on Thursday and Wednesday’s are vegetarian. I rarely veer from this schedule. But, the most effective strategy I implemented was combining each night’s dishes into a single plan – steps one thru done. I was able to get it all ready at the same time. This was the very beginning of Real Family Real Food.
This week’s line-up celebrates those early days when I was learning and testing on my family…My Mom’s Linguine, Mustard & Lager Pan Roasted Chicken that I saw on TV when I was up one night with my baby, and a version of Cooking Light’s Cheddar Chicken Chowder with my husband’s family.
