MY MASTER PLAN
My oldest is a teenager and is already thinking about what she is going to eat when she’s off to college and I’m not cooking! Go figure, she’s a planner like her Mom.
This latest revelation of hers fits right into my master plan to get my kids to eventually do everything around here. They’ve been doing the dishes since 3rd
Grade and their own laundry since 5th
Grade – and now they can start cooking once a week – yessss. The little one shows real promise - I think she can start even sooner – as long as we want to eat dessert for dinner.
So my oldest shadowed me this week and honestly it was awesome. She understands how simple, real, delicious, healthy food is selected and prepared. Take Tuesday’s Eye-of-Round Roast – salt, pepper, 20 minutes at 500º, turn off the oven and then just walk away. She was imagining all the things that she would do with the leftovers (my heart is soaring). Or, how about Wednesday’s whole wheat Pizza Blanca loaded with veggies or Monday’s Shrimp Tostadas? Both quick, yummy, crowd friendly dinners that can be prepared on a tight budget.
As much as I am counting down the days until she really makes dinner and I can just enjoy it, the best part is knowing that she is even thinking about it. Now she’s concerned that she needs all of her favorite recipes and my tips…ummm, hey, like, I know a website?!?!
