People Change, I Am One of Those People
My 7YO niece just told me a story about her little friend who wanted to “break up” because she didn’t like to play with blondes anymore. Can you imagine?? She capped off the exchange with “People change and I’m one of those people.” Seriously? I mean there’s a speck of me that admires her self-aware sass -- but they are first graders!
Now, literally today, I am confronted with the contrast. I am with a group of gal pals – my college posse. I haven’t seen a two of them in 15 years and one since graduation. You know what? We don’t change. We really don’t. We have fallen right in line. The smarty is still whip smart, the pithy wit is as sharp as the day we met, the "mom" is still equal parts adoring and critical, the actress is as loving and needy as ever, the artsy free spirit is an entrepeneurial juggernaut, the anti-establishment world citizen is fantastically self actualized, and the serial dater has her man with her. We are all independent, opinionated women. We are mothers, daughters, wives, girlfriends, caretakers, businesswomen, authors, artists, animal lovers, survivors, partygirls and loyal friends. In fact, I'm finding that we each have a slice of eachother in ourselves. That's not an accident. It's perfect.
I adore each one of these women with my whole heart. Why? Because they kept it REAL, yo! They are REAL FAMILY. As much as my taste in people may have evolved, these peeps are a true crew. My OGs.
This week I am reppin’ them with few few old school Real Family Real Food hits. Enjoy!
PS Have you noticed our changes?? What do you think?
