I see little opportunities, windows of time, in my day/evening to get some dinner prep done. I find that when I just take the 15-20 minutes to prep, the actual cooking of dinner is more enjoyable – and I’m not so rushed. I’ll even let the kids help me cook if I’ve done the knife wielding earlier.
Dinnertime at my house is also Study Hall. While cooking dinner, I am attempting far more challenging feats such as the Rise and Fall of Rome, French declensions and the worst - 3rd grade Math. It’s the new, old, new again Math. Whatever. My head hurts.
But, I want to be clear, it is really never mission critical to prep ahead unless I am marinating. Much of these Prep Opportunities can be completed while the oven preheats or the water boils. And, finally, as I always like to remind myself, read through the instructions first, then go for it.
